The Internet has far transcended the modest desktop/server structure with which most of us are familiar. It's becoming a way to interconnect an almost infinite variety of devices, sensors, and microcomputers; creating self-formed networks, limitless mobility, peer-to-peer communications and more. Taking advantage of this new paradigm requires an understanding of the operational implications and obstacles, as well as technical understanding and real-world practice.
